Friday Night Feast

Fridays: 5:15pm at the Village Barn

Join us for a joyful time of fellowship together over a communal meal. The meal is a feast - ending a day of fasting.* We feast in honor of a saint whose feast day lands close to the date of the Friday. We tell the story of the saint and celebrate his/her life of faithfulness to Christ - reminding ourselves that we are part of the “great cloud of witnesses” (Hebrews 12:1). The meal ends with a brief time of sharing that is focused on gratitude.

FOOD: It’s a modified potluck

  • Iona House provides hot dogs / sausages (and veggie options), buns, condiments, chips and plates / utensils.

  • Guests are welcome to provide a main dish or side dish such as a salad, fruit, dessert, drinks, etc. to add to the meal

WHO: Staff, Residents, guests, volunteers, and friends are welcome. Please RSVP so we can send you details about address, parking, and any other updates.

* within the Great Tradition of Christianity, every Friday (except those in feasting seasons such as the 50 days of Eastertide) is a day of fasting in honor of the day of the week on which Jesus was crucified. Fasting can look like altered diet (no meat) or reducing consumption. Because the biblical day begins in the evening (at sunset traditionally), we find it fitting to feast on Friday evening as it is actually the beginning of a new day.
