Lectio
Latin for “Reading”
(note that this is a different discipline than “lectio divina”)
Thursday Mornings: 9:30am
Echoing the life of a monastery where the life of the mind is an important part of Christian formation, we practice a weekly time of communal reading / study / discussion.
PART 1: Reading
Each Thursday morning following Morning Prayer at 9:30am, the Iona House community (consisting of Residents, staff, guests, and local community members) enter into the discipline of study by means of engaging a pre-selected reading which is handed out to all who desire to participate. Participants pick a place on campus to read, mark, and study the selection. The reading typically takes 45-75 minutes.
PART 2: Discussing
At the agreed upon time, the Lectio participants come back together for a time of discussion over tea. We seek to understand the intention of the author, wrestle with implications, and learn from one another in a context that is committed to the Great Tradition of Christianity.
It is helpful to have folks RSVP so that we can prepare enough copies of the reading.
