Physical Work
Working in the Village Garden
Echoing the wisdom of Christian monasticism, we believe physical work can be a powerful means of spiritual formation. For more on this, see our blog post on the topic. On most days, there are work projects happening on campus, ranging from work in the garden to splitting and stacking wood to forestry management to care for our animals. We warmly invite our guests to join in with our Residents, staff, and local community volunteers as a means of spiritual formation.
Typically work projects happen between 9:30am and noon and then again from 1:15-3:00pm. Inquire at Morning Prayer about joining in if you desire.
Practically speaking, the life of Iona House is sustained by a community of volunteers who take responsibility for a variety of tasks: caring for the garden, development projects, feeding and caring for the animals, assisting with communal meals, hospitality, prayer ministry, running the library, and inhabiting and leading the times of prayer happening each day. Were it not for our phenomenal local community of volunteers, Iona House wouldn’t exist.
If you would like to get involved in serving on a more regular basis and would like to know what options are available, please fill out this form (below) and one of our staff will be in touch.
