A Mansion for Chickens

We are so excited to welcome our egg-laying hens into much better accommodations. One of our current residents, Micah Hitchcock, has made this coop a passion project this summer. He sourced nearly all of the materials for it from our on-campus scrap pile. But this is anything but a “scrappy” chicken coop. It is deluxe accommodations. A few of our guests commented that they wouldn’t mind staying in it… and the kids, they’d hang out in there all day if allowed.

The coop features easy to access egg laying / nesting boxes, windows that can be opened or shut depending on the weather, and more. Perhaps what is most exciting to me is that the coop represents a first step toward improving all of our animal structures, the fencing, and more. It is a beautiful step in the right direction.
